Regulations

Article 1 To improve foreign language proficiency in students, each department or graduate institute at National Taiwan Normal University (hereinafter referred to as “this University”) may prescribe a set of foreign language requirements for graduation.
Article 2 Prior to graduation, students shall be required to submit the results of a foreign language proficiency test that meets the requirements prescribed by their department or graduate institute. Results shall be submitted to the departmental or graduate institute’s office for verification.
Article 3 Refer to Attachment 1 for the foreign language proficiency tests used by this University.
Article 4 If students fail to meet the foreign language proficiency threshold necessary for graduation, they shall choose from one of the following options:
  1. Engage in one (1) year of independent English reading and show an improvement of 100L between pre- and post-independent study SmartReading (Lexile) tests administered by this University. If the pre-study test result is lower than the Lexile scores of 350L (Foundational), 450L (Beginner), 750L (Intermediate), 850L (Advanced Intermediate), 950L (Advanced), then the student’s pre-study test score will be adjusted to meet the base score for each level. If this standard is different from that prescribed by a department or graduate institute, the latter shall take precedence.
  2.  Enroll in the online course English Grammar.
Article 5 Matters not covered in these Regulations shall be handled in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
Article 6 These Regulations, and any ensuing revisions, shall be implemented following its passage at a meeting of the Academic Affairs Committee.
